Electrostatic complexation of spheres and chains under elastic stress

چکیده
We consider the complexation of highly charged semiflexible polyelectrolytes with oppositely charged macroions. On the basis of scaling arguments we discuss how the resulting complexes depend on the persistence length of the polyelectrolyte, the salt concentration, and the sizes and charges of the chain and the macroions. We study first the case of complexation with a single sphere and calculate the wrapping length of the chain. We then extend our considerations to complexes involving many wrapped spheres and study cooperative effects. The mechanical properties of such a complex under an external deformation are evaluated. Creep Stress Redistribution Analysis of Thick-Walled FGM Spheres
Time-dependent creep stress redistribution analysis of thick-walled FGM spheres subjected to an internal pressure and a uniform temperature field is investigated. The material creep and mechanical properties through the radial graded direction are assumed to obey the simple power-law variation throughout the thickness. Total strains are assumed to be the sum of elastic, thermal and creep strain...
متن کاملAnalysis of Motion of Micro-Gripper Exposed to the Electric Field and Thermal Stresses for Using in Micro-Robotics
Micro system technology is a relatively new scientific research that deals with the development and study of properties of materials in micro dimensions. Micro-grippers are widely used in switching, positioning, and assembling micron sized components in micro-robotics. In this study, the static and dynamic behavior of visco-elastic Micro-Tweezers under the thermal and electrostatic field is...
متن کاملWave propagation in elasto-plastic granular systems
Due to the nonlinear nature of the inter-particle contact, granular chains made of elastic spheres are known to transmit solitary waves under impulse loading. However, the localized contact between spherical granules leads to stress concentration, resulting in plastic behavior even for small forces. In this work, we investigate the effects of plasticity in wave propagation in elasto-plastic gra...
متن کاملElastic Flows Of Ellipsoidal Particles
Granular flow rheology can be divided into two global regimes, the Elastic, which is dominated by force chains and the inertial which are nearly free of force chains. The propensity of a material to form force chains is strongly influenced by particle shape. This paper is an attempt to assess the effect of particle shape on flow regime transitions, through computer simulations of shear flow of ...
متن کاملComplexation of semiflexible chains with oppositely charged cylinder.
We study the complexation of long thin semiflexible polymer chains with an oppositely charged cylinder. Starting from the linear Poisson-Boltzmann equation, we calculate the electrostatic potential and the energy of such a charge distribution. We find that sufficiently flexible chains prefer to wrap around the cylinder in a helical manner, when their charge density is smaller than that of the c...
